TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government's plan to revise the Government Regulation Number 74 of 2008 regarding Teachers has been hampered by the president’s approval. Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Regulations Chief, Wahiduddin Adams, said the Palace has yet to confirm when the consent to revise will be issued.
They could still continue to prepare the revision draft. A joint committee between departments has been formed to harmonize the draft. The ministries that will join to discuss the regulations are Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The Ministry of Education has been proposing the revision since last year. The reason for the revision was to adjust to policies and today’s development. There are a number of crucial issues to be revised, such as the management of teachers and organizations.
Revision Team member, Ali Sukmo, said the revision on the article about teacher organizations was required as the government has no fancy on having too many teacher organizations. However, Ali claimed the government was planning to simplify the organizations into one entity.
Deputy Minister for Education, Musliar Kasim, said the revision draft is still open for debate. The article on teacher organizations has become one of the crucial discussions. "It is not final yet; we're still discussing all of them."
