TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A suicide bomber attacked a convoy of NATO troops entering an international airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. "Based on our information, there was an explosion near the Kabul International Airport," Kabul Police Deputy Chief Sayed Ghafar Sayedzada told Reuters news agency.

NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) confirmed the attack, as reports of a large blast near the facility began spreading. "We can confirm a suicide car bombing that targeted an ISAF convoy," said ISAF spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Latondra Kinley. "The vehicle detonated too early and didn't reach the convoy. There were no ISAF casualties."

The airport shelters a major operational base for NATO forces that have been fighting Taliban insurgents for 12 years. Back in June, Taliban insurgents attacked the airport, targeting NATO's airport headquarters, with seven militants managed to take over two nearby buildings.
