TEMPO.CO, Stockholm - Sweden has announced that it will grant asylum to 8,000 Syrian refugees who apply.
Andres Danielson, chairman of the Sweden Migration Office, said Sweden is considering a new resolution concerning the Syrian refugee situation and will grant permanent residence to the asylum seekers.
Danielsonsaid this decision was in accordance with international law considering the fact that the civil war in Syria is worsening and there is no hope for a solution in the near future.
Danielson added that relatives and families of the 8,000 Syrian refugees seeking permanent residence were also invited to come to Sweden.
Considering there is no Swedish representative in Syria at this moment, Danielson said Syrian asylum seekers could go to the closest Swedish mission and demand for the travel documents needed to go to Sweden.
Sweden is the first state to provide a visa for relatives of Syrian refugees.
