TEMPO.CO, Vatican – It turns out that leader of the worldwide Catholics Church Pope Francis is a fan of football. The Argentinian Pope admitted that he is a fan of Rene Pontoni.
The Pope vividly remembers the time when Pontoni scored a goal and won the Argentina League in 1946. At that time, Pontoni was playing for an Argentinian football club San Lorenzo. "I remember going to the stadium as a child, in particular the 1946 season. I went to see the match with my parents and I was amazed by Pontoni's goal," the Pope said, as quoted by daily newspaper Marca, Wednesday, August 14, 2013.
In order to honor the Pope, a friendly match will be held between Argentina and Italy on Wednesday night, August 14, 2013, at the Stadium Olympico, Rome, Italy. The Pope claimed that he was confused when asked which team would he support.
