TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 21-year-old Indonesian artist, Manohara Odelia Pinot exhibited her painting at a fundraiser event entitled The 2013 National Children Day Charity. She started the auction at Rp500,000 for the painting. "Thank God it was sold at Rp1 million," said the artist at Café D`Tents Kemang, Jakarta, Thursday, August 1.
Her painting was a simple portrait of a little girl on a A4-sized white canvas. Manohara chose black to define the face contour and applied blue as the shadow color.
The artist said she painted a portrait of a child in purpose to celebrate the 2013 National Children Day. "This painting is a portrait of Indonesian children," said Manohara who finished the painting in two hours.
Manohara has recently been into painting. She has made 20 paintings to date. Asked whether she will become a professional painter, she said shortly, "No, it is just a hobby."
The painting auction is a part of fundraiser event series which is conducted by Manohara and her friends for the orphans, homeless children and cancer patients. The money raised from the auction will especially be used to fund patients with cancer.
