TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The advocacy and investigation coordinator of the Indonesian Forum for Budget Transparency (FITRA) Uchok Sky Khadafi said the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) should serve as a main source of information for the House of Representatives (DPR) before DPR appoints any public officials including members of the Central Audit Agency (BPK). "Even without orders, BIN should provide information for the DPR. DPR needs a lot of information," Uchok told Tempo on Sunday, June 9.
Uchok explained that DPR must have a strong reason in appointing BPK members, especially since some of the candidates are under the 'grey' area. One of the candidates is the former State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) deputy Muchayat. Muchayat has been mentioned as the person mostly responsible for construction company Adhi Karya's winning in the Hambalang project tender. The candidate has been reportedly promoted by the Democrat Party for candidacy.
"If he [Muchayat] signed up, BPK will become questionable. BPK's audit can be used as evidence in court by the law enforcers, including the calculation of state losses. If he joins BPK, state losses from the Hambalang project [scandal] may 'disappear'. That would be a shame," said Uchok.
