0,1 Percent Deflation Recorded in April

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Suryamin, stated that the inflation rate on April has decreased to minus 0,1 percent.
"This is good if we compare it with the same period last year, where we still had 0,2 percent inflation,” Suryamin said on Wednesday, May 1.
Suryamin explained that the deflation occured due to 0,8 percent deflation experienced by horticultural products.
“The price of rice and grain are decreasing due to a harvest season on April,” he said. The 0,13 percent deflation in textile industry also became a contributing factor.
On the other hand, food sector still has a 0,3 percent inflation rate, health sector 0,22 percent, and financial service sector with 0,1 percent inflation. In general, the inflation rate in January to April period was recorded at 2,22 percent, while the year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate was 5,75 percent.
Suryamin also said that the consumer price index for 38 out of 66 regions has alse experienced a deflation, while the other 28 still experiencing inflation. The highest inflations were recorded in Padang and Medan, with 0,81 percent and 0,74 percent respectively.
“While the highest defaltions were in Maumere and Palu, with 1,2 percent and 0,95 percent respectively,” he concluded.
