TEMPO Interactive, Mataram:PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) and its foreign shareholders were very shocked and disappointed after receiving a letter from West Sumbawa Regent saying that they will stop Newmonts operations starting on April 19, 2011. The decree was issued because their wish to buy 7 percent of its shares in 2010 was not approved by the central government. The President Director of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara, Martiono Hadianto, in his press release on Wednesday (23/3) evening, said that the company had complied with all requirements of the contract which said that they should offer their shares first to the central government.W. Musyafirin, chief of the Office of Revenue , Financial Management and Assets of West Sumbawa Regency, W.Musyafirin, said that the letter was issued to suppress peoples anger over the mining operation.
