Safety Committee Has Not Concluded Cause of Bekasi Train Crash

May 21, 2026 | 10:44 am

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is continuing its investigation into the collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi and the Commuter Line train (KRL) serving the Kampung Bandan to Cikarang route. The incident occurred at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City, on Monday, April 27, 2026, around 20:57 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

KNKT Chair Soerjanto Tjahjono stated that the committee is still studying the chronology and cause of the accident. "KNKT is currently in the process of investigation," said Soerjanto on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Acting Head of the KNKT Railway Sub-Commission Gusnaedi Rachmanas stated that the investigation process is still ongoing. "So, we have not been able to conclude the factors contributing to the accident," said Gusnaedi.

Gusnaedi stated that the KNKT team has gathered information and interviewed several parties related to the incident. "Then we will analyze all the data and information," he told Tempo.

The accident began when the KRL stopped on track 1 of Bekasi Timur Station. The train stopped due to a disturbance on the front track caused by a collision between the train and a taxi from the opposite direction.

Shortly after, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train approached from behind and directly hit the body of the KRL. The collision severely damaged the special women's carriages on the Commuter Line train.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Transportation coordinated with several parties involved. "For the cause of the incident, we leave it to KNKT to be further investigated," said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi.
