TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Manpower Yassierli announced that the government will reopen the Ready-to-Work National Internship Program in 2026 with a quota of 100,000 positions. He added that the government is considering making the initiative a regular annual program.
“There are talks, God willing, of another 100,000 next year, and this program will become a routine government agenda,” Yassierli said during the opening of the first batch of the National Graduates Internship Program at the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The National Internship Program is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s 8+4+5 economic stimulus package. Each intern will receive a stipend equivalent to the local minimum wage, funded by the central government through the state budget (APBN).
At Monday’s launch, the government officially welcomed 15,000 interns for the first wave of the program. An additional 5,000 participants are expected to join on Thursday, October 23.
Yassierli said the government will open registration for the second batch in November, targeting another 80,000 participants. “With that, we expect to reach 100,000 interns this year,” he stated.
He explained that the program primarily targets graduates who have been out of school for more than a year, aiming to provide them with hands-on work experience and improve their employability. “Through this internship, participants will gain experience, strengthen their resumes, and enhance their competitiveness,” he said.
At the same event, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that the government has allocated Rp1.1 trillion to fund stipends for participants.
“For 100,000 participants, the budget is approximately that amount,” Airlangga said.
He added that unlike this year’s program, which focused on placements in private companies, the 2026 edition will expand to include government institutions.
“If possible, we’ll also open placements at Bank Indonesia and other ministries and agencies to provide more internship opportunities,” Airlangga said.
