Jakarta Urges People to Use Public Transport for Pope Francis' Mass

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government has urged participants of the holy mass led by Pope Francis at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, Jakarta, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, to use public transportation such as the MRT Jakarta train and TransJakarta buses.
Syafrin Liputo, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, stated that his agency has coordinated with public transportation operators in the capital to ensure smooth mobility for the large congregation. The national football stadium reportedly has a capacity of 78,000 people.
“To facilitate this, several TransJakarta service routes around the GBK area will be adjusted,” Syafrin announced in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 3.
He outlined several TransJakarta routes that will operate near the GBK area during the mass. They are as follows:
-Integrated Public Transportation and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Line 1B (Palmerah Station-Dukuh Atas Transport Hub)
- BRT Line 1F (Palmerah Station-Senayan Roundabout)
- BRT Line 1N (Tanah Abang-Blok M)
- BRT Line 1P (Senen-Blok M)
- BRT Line 4C (Pemuda Merdeka-Senayan Roundabout)
- BRT Line 6D (Tebet Station-Senayan Roundabout)
- BRT Line 6M (Manggarai Station-Blok M)
- BRT Line 8N (Kebayoran Lama-Petamburan).
- Line 1 (Blok M-Kota)
- Line 9 (Pinang Ranti-Pluit)
- Line 10H (Tanjung Priok-Bundaran Senayan)
- Line 3F (Kalideres-Senayan Bank DKI)
- Line 6V (Ragunan-Senayan Bank DKI)
- Line 9A (Cililitan-Grogol)
- Line 9C (Pinang Ranti-Bundaran Senayan)
- Line M1 (Blok M-Kota)
- Line M9 (Pinang Ranti-Pluit)
Syafrin expressed hope that the availability of these TransJakarta routes in the GBK area would make transportation access easier for residents wishing to attend the mass or other religious activities.
“Mass participants are advised to stay updated on the latest information regarding TransJakarta services through official channels to ensure proper travel planning,” he added.
Meanwhile, MRT Jakarta confirmed that their services would operate as usual during Pope Francis' Mass, from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a waiting time of 5 minutes during peak hours (7:00-9:00 a.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m.) and 10 minutes outside peak hours.
