TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than a month after her suspected escape from the Philippines, where she is the subject of numerous complaints, former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo was taken into custody in Indonesia, an official from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, as reported by ABS-CBN News.
"According to Senior Superintendent Audie Latuheru of the Indonesian Police, Ms. Guo was apprehended at 11:58 PM on September 3, 2024," a Department of Justice statement read.
“This development has been verified by our counterparts in Immigration, who have confirmed that Ms. Guo is currently in the custody of the Indonesian Police at Jatanras Mabes Polri,” the statement continued, as cited from Inquirer.net.
Guo was taken into custody at Tangerang City, in the province of Banten, which is located on Jakarta's western edge, according to NBI Director Jaime Santiago.
Santiago said that Guo will be turned over to the NBI after initially being brought to the Bureau of Immigration, which will then be returned to the Philippines.
He also mentioned that Guo will face legal action before she is brought to the Senate.
Less than two weeks had passed since Alice Guo's accused companion Cassandra Li Ong and her sister Shiela were taken into custody by Indonesian authorities in Batam. The two are currently being held after being returned to the Philippines.
