TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Zanzibar announced plans to collaborate on tourism development, especially through a program in which Zanzibar students will be sent to Bali to study tourism.

During the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Badung, Bali, on Monday, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno confirmed the collaboration following a bilateral meeting between President Joko Widodo and his counterpart from Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

"We will welcome Zanzibar students to the Bali Tourism Polytechnic for a valuable exchange of experiences," Minister Uno stated, adding that the Zanzibar president expressed keen interest in signing an agreement immediately to build tourism talent in their country.

Zanzibar aims to enhance its tourism sector by learning from Bali's successful model. The Bali Tourism Polytechnic was selected as the preferred institution due to its planned international study program.

Recognizing the growing demand for tourism education, the Indonesian government is actively pursuing collaborations with various countries. The partnership with Zanzibar is a concrete example of this commitment.

"This is a tangible opportunity for cooperation," Minister Uno emphasized.

"We have received positive responses from Zanzibar, and I have instructed the Director of the Bali Tourism Polytechnic to follow up on the agreement," he revealed.

During the bilateral meeting, Widodo reaffirmed Indonesia's willingness to share its expertise in sustainable tourism with Zanzibar.

The proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation between Tanzania and Zanzibar is currently under review and is expected to bolster cultural and economic ties between both nations.
