TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Australia, Richard Marles, and his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto, will ink an Australia-Indonesia Defense Cooperation Agreement.
Based on the media release by the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, Richard Marles and Prabowo will sign the agreement during the Australian leader’s visit to Indonesia on August 28-29.
The defense agreement is intended to bolster the strong defense ties between Australia and Indonesia by enhancing practical arrangements, strengthening interoperability, and supporting increased dialogue.
“The Australia-Indonesia Defense Cooperation Agreement will be a historic step in deepening our defense cooperation,” Marles said, adding that the agreement reflects both countries’ shared commitment to a region that embraces stability and sovereignty.
The agreement will bolster the already strong defense cooperation between Indonesia and Australia and enable further expansion of both countries’ joint exercises to address shared regional security challenges.
Marles and Prabowo will sign the defense cooperation agreement while they both visit the National Military Academy of Indonesia in Magelang.
Both leaders will also discuss bilateral, regional, and global issues for shared strategic interests.
While in Magelang, the Deputy Prime Minister will meet Australian Royal Military College Cadets participating in the annual short-term cadet exchange between both military academies, on the 50th anniversary of the exchange program.
