Indonesia Fields Six Athletes at 2024 Korea Open; No Women's Doubles

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian badminton team will compete in the 2024 Korea Open, scheduled to take place from August 27 to September 1, 2024. A total of six representatives have been selected to compete in the various sectors of this BWF Super 500 tournament.
The majority of Indonesian representatives are young athletes, with notable absences of seasoned players including men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, and men's doubles Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
In the men's singles sector, Indonesia will be represented solely by Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. The 26-year-old will face Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in the first round.
For women's singles, Chico's younger sister, Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, will be the sole Indonesian representative. The 19-year-old athlete born in Jayapura will compete against the winner of the qualifying round match between Taiwanese players Liang Ting Yu and Lin Hsiang.
In the men's doubles sector, two emerging pairs, Leo Rolly Carnando / Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri / Daniel Marthin, will once again participate in the 2024 Korea Open. Both pairs made their respective debuts at the 2024 Japan Open and reached the semifinals.
Leo / Bagas will face the Taiwanese pair Ming Che Lu / Tang Kai Wei in the first round, while Fikri / Daniel will also compete against Taiwanese representatives Chen Cheng Kuan / Chen Sheng Fa.
Similar to the men's doubles, the mixed doubles sector will be represented by two Indonesian pairs, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto / Lisa Ayu Kusumawati and Dejan Ferdinansyah / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja. Indonesia did not field any representatives in the women's doubles sector for the 2024 Korea Open.
