TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Ditjen PAS Kemenkumham) stated that convicted murderer Jessica Wongso had behaved well while serving her sentence. The convict in the controversial premeditated murder case of Wayan Mirna Salihin was paroled today, on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Head of the Public Relations Working Group of the Directorate General of Correctional Facilities, Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra, said Jessica was considered to have behaved well based on the Prisoner Development Assessment System. “(Jessica) received a total remission of 58 months and 30 days,” he said in an official statement on Sunday.

Tempo tried to convert the amount of revision with layman's calculations. This means that the total remission obtained by the convict whose full name is Jessica Kumala Wongso is 59 months, which means 5 years less 1 month, or 4 years 11 months.

Deddy explained that Jessica had been detained since June 30, 2016 after being caught in the murder case of Article 340 of the Criminal Code or KUHP. Based on the Supreme Court's cassation verdict Number 498 K/PID/2017 dated June 21, 2017, she must serve 20 years in prison.

Jessica Wongso then served her prison sentence at the Jakarta Class IIA Correctional Institution or Lapas Perempuan. Then she received parole (PB) based on the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number PAS-1703.PK.05.09 of 2024.

Deddy said the granting of parole to Jessica was in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 7 of 2022 concerning the Second Amendment to Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 3 of 2018 concerning Terms and Procedures for Granting Remission, Assimilation, Leave to Visit Family, Parole, Leave Ahead of Release, and Conditional Leave.

“While undergoing PB, the person concerned is obliged to report to the Class I Correctional Center for East-North Jakarta and will undergo guidance until March 27, 2032,” said Deddy.
