TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK officially filed an appeal against the judge's verdict on the former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo's (SYL) case on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

"As of today, KPK prosecutors have submitted an appeal to the Central Jakarta District Court in the SYL, KS, and MH cases," said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto to journalists on Tuesday.

Regarding the reason for the appeal, Tessa said he could not confirm it as the prosecutor team is still drafting the memorandum.

On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Panel of Judges at the Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Syahrul Yasin Limpo to 10 years in prison and an Rp300 million, subsidiary to 4 months imprisonment.

SYL was also sentenced to Rp14.14 billion plus US$30,000 in restitution. Failure to pay could result in asset seizure or 2 years of imprisonment. Meanwhile, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Kasdi Subagyono and former Director of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery Muhammad Hatta were each sentenced to 4 years in prison and a fine of Rp200 million, subsidiary to 2 months of jail time.

The three have violated Article 12 (e) in conjunction with Article 18 of Corruption Eradication Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 55 (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 64 (1) of the Criminal Code.

The judges issued a lighter sentence than the prosecutor demanded, namely 12 years in prison and an Rp500 million fine, subsidiary to 6 months of jail time, and paying Rp44.27 billion with an additional US$30,000 of restitution.

Meanwhile, prosecutors demanded Syahrul Yasin Limpo's subordinates to be sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp250 million, subsidiary to 3 months in prison.
