Indonesia's Local Music Festival Ends in Chaos, Vendor Asks for Justice

24 June 2024 11:35 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaA local music festival in West Java’s Tangerang, called Lentera Festival, ended in chaos after the audience set fire to the venue on Sunday evening, June 23, 2024. The audience went rogue after the concert was canceled despite paying for Rp115,000 worth of tickets.

As a result, the stage and the sound system equipment were damaged, causing the vendor to lose hundreds of millions of Rupiah in damage.

Not only burn and crush the equipment, but some in the audience also looted the venue, as seen from the video uploaded by an Instagram account @soundtainment on Sunday evening.

"The Lentera Festival was canceled due to financial issues. However, some of the audience burned the stage and looted the properties such as barricades and cymbals. We understand that you’re highly emotional because of the cancellation, but don’t act like a fool,” the caption wrote.

The Soundtainment then highlighted the destruction of the vendor's property and demanded justice for the vendor. According to Soundtainment, the vendor experienced loss twice; the incomplete payment and the looted and damaged equipment. They urged the police to investigate the people who damaged and looted the vendor's property.

In the uploaded caption, The Soundtainment also asked performers Guyon Waton and NDX A.K.A to help voice the vendor’s concern. "As musicians, please care for vendor’s losses too, don't just ask to be paid in full,” the caption wrote. Both music groups have reposted the upload on their respective Instagram accounts.

The Lentera Festival organizing committee also uploaded a photo of their chairman along with his ID card. "The perpetrator! Name: Muhammad Dian Permana Angga. We, the entire committee, were also harmed by this person. This person ran away with hundreds of millions of money that should have been paid for necessities," they wrote.

This incident started when the concert slated for 07:00 p.m. was unceremoniously canceled. Dian Permana, who promised to complete payment for the performers an hour before the festival started, allegedly ran away with the money. The angry audience then expressed their frustration by burning and destroying the vendor's property.
