TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono aims to add 200 units of electric buses to the Transjakarta fleet by the end of 2024. He said that the Jakarta government has started purchasing the buses in 2023.
Another effort to improve public transportation in Jakarta is to increase its coverage to more than 89.7 percent to serve Jakarta residents.
"We are also pursuing an integrated payment [system] with a maximum fare of only Rp10,000," he said when met in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Friday, June 21.
Integrated payment works by allowing passengers to pay a single fare when traveling on two or more modes covering Transjakarta, MRT and/or LRT.
Heru said that public transportation such as the Transjakarta Electric Bus is now one of the options to mobilize residents, which is considered to be more eco-friendly as it emits less pollutants compared to diesel buses or personal vehicles.
According to IQ Air, Jakarta is the fourth most polluted city in the world. The IQ Air website showed on Friday, June 21 that Jakarta's air quality index was 160 or unhealthy. The main pollutant is PM 2.5.
