Japanese Investor to Support Indonesia's Maluku Fisheries Development

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Ministry promotes the export volume of Maluku's fisheries products by reinforcing capacity building and holding a meeting between Japanese importers and investors with Maluku business actors on Thursday, June 13, 2024. 

"I will support the increase of Maluku's tuna export to Japan,” the CEO of Sushi Zanmai Japan, Kiyoshi Kimura, stated during the business meeting with one of Maluku's fish exporters, PT. Harta Samudera, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

Sushi Zanmai offers to create a joint venture to strengthen fisheries technology in Indonesia by sending fish collector vessels with 19 to 300 tons capacity. The vessel is expected to be able to assist a more effective and efficient fish captures.

"We are ready to accept Indonesian fisheries workers to be trained", Mr. Kimura further stated.

Robert Tjoanda, the Director of Harta Samudera hopes the technological support from Japan will further improve the quality and quantity of tuna catch for wider market access. "We welcome this cooperation with Japan to optimize Maluku's huge tuna potential", Robert stated.

The business meeting between Sushi Zenmai and Harta Samudra is a part of the sustainable fisheries programs organized by the participants of the ministry’s diplomatic training. The Head of the Education and Training Center of the ministry, Ambassador Mohammad K. Koba, underlines that Indonesian diplomats must comprehend the technical issues on the ground to guard economic diplomacy in such a way that it hatches. 

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stands ready to guard the business deal by Sushi Zanmai in Maluku to increase fish export volume to the East Asian market ", Ambassador Koba added.
