TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Government of Indonesia, through its Ambassador in Fiji, Dupito Simamora, has officially handed over the donation of medical equipment worth FJD 428,000 to Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, Fiji’s Minister of Health, at Vatuwaqa on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

The donated medical equipment includes electric hospital beds, electric wheelchairs, examination tables, medication trolleys, and emergency trolleys. Besides being a part of COVID-19 recovery efforts, it also marks the 50th anniversary of friendship between Indonesia and Fiji.

"As a development partner of Fiji, Indonesia is committed to supporting Fiji's priority development issues, such as the health sector. This collaboration represents solidarity, friendship, and closer relations between our governments and people. Furthermore, it is our shared goal to support each other in achieving the SDGs by 2030 at global, regional, and national levels, specifically SDG3, which focuses on good health and well-being," said Ambassador Simamora, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 12.

Fiji's Minister of Health, the Honorable Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, expressed his gratitude, saying, “This morning we witnessed the generosity and ongoing support of the Indonesian Government to the people of Fiji through this much-needed grant of medical equipment to provide health services to the people of Fiji."

“This donation makes a difference in people's lives when seeking healthcare in our facilities and also contributes to the Fiji Ministry of Health's vision of achieving a physically healthy society. In fact, our team is currently loading some of the provided equipment to be distributed to our healthcare facilities in the Northern Division today," added the minister during his speech.

The medical equipment was shipped to Fiji on May 19, after which a team from IndoFarma conducted comprehensive training and setup of the equipment to build capacity among local healthcare professionals.

The Indonesian Embassy in Suva has planned several events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of friendship between the two countries throughout this year.
