TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo declined to reveal the specific reasons behind Bambang Susantono's resignation from his post as the head of the Nusantara Capital City or IKN Authority, encouraging journalists to direct their inquiries to Bambang himself.
“It is due to personal reasons,” Jokowi said after inspecting the location for the 79th Indonesian Independence ceremony at IKN in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday, June 5.
He stressed that the resignation of Bambang would not impede the progress of IKN.
On Monday, June 3, the Presidential Palace announced the departure of the IKN Authority head Bambang Susantono and his deputy Dhony Rahajoe. Minister of State Secretary Pratikno did not provide any explanation but mentioned that the decision had been long discussed.
The President confirmed that Bambang had been entrusted with a new role as a special envoy for international cooperation in order to speed up the IKN project. Meanwhile, Dhony has not yet received any assignments.
“Given his global expertise, we can leverage his skills for the benefit of the country,” Jokowi remarked.
Minister of Public Works and Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Deputy Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Raja Juli Antoni have been designated as the acting chief and deputy chief of the IKN Authority, respectively.
