Indonesia Records Highest Number of Foreign Tourist Visits in Four Years

TEMPO.CO, JakartaActing Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated over 4,098,714 foreign visits to Indonesia between the months of January and April this year. "It increased by 2.41 percent month-on-month, and increased by 23.23 percent year-on-year," said Amalia at BPS head office on Monday, June 3, 2024.

According to Amalia, this country recorded the highest number of foreign tourists visiting since 2020 during this period. “An increase of 2.84 percent m-o-m compared to the same period in 2023," explained Amalia.

Amalia explained that the most foreign tourists visiting Indonesia based on nationality in April 2024 was Malaysia with 16 percent, followed by Australia at 12 percent, and China at 8.1 percent. "Tourist visits from Malaysia increased by 6.47 percent m-o-m (April 2024 compared to March 2023) and by 16.47 percent y-o-y (April 2024 compared to April 2023), ” explained Amalia.

Over 47.13 percent of foreign tourists enter Indonesia through Bali's I Ngurah Rai Airport. "The majority of foreign tourists entering through Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport are Australian with a proportion of 23.36 percent," said Amalia.

She explained that foreign tourists from the European continent recorded the highest average length of stay in the first quarter of 2024, or until March. "The European continent (stay for) 18.69 nights on average, followed by those from Africa at 17.84 nights, while foreign tourists from Asia bar ASEAN are 15.87 nights," said Amalia.
