TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Suhail Al Mazroui on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum Summit in Bali. The meeting discussed the development of bilateral cooperation between both countries.
Luhut said there is potential for wider cooperation with the UAE, especially regarding the new and renewable energy sector. He ensured the bilateral relations would continue under Prabowo Subianto’s government. "While the UAE is striving for the commitment on environmentally friendly development, Indonesia is ready to fight alongside (UAE),” the minister said in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
Luhut believed the leadership of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Zayed played an important role in achieving bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE. Both countries have a joint commitment to green energy development, such as low-emission aviation fuel and carbon capture storage.
According to Luhut, now is the right time for the Indonesian and UAE industries to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, including through both countries’ state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
"We can start by encouraging more UAE companies to partner with Indonesian SOEs," he said.
One example of such cooperation is between Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar and Indonesia’s state-owned Pertamina Power and PLN Nusantara Power. The partnership will develop stage 2 of Indonesia’s Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant and provide renewable energy in the new capital IKN.
