Jokowi Approves Jakarta Special Region Bill

29 April 2024 16:08 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed the ratification of Law No. 2 of 2024 on the Jakarta Special Region, also known as the DKJ Law, which outlines the transition of the capital status from Jakarta to the State Capital of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

As per the copy of the law, Article 1 (1) stipulates that the Jakarta Special Region is a provincial region with distinct specialties in the administration of government.

Article 1(2) states that the special authority in question pertains to the ability to execute its functions as the National Economic Center and Global City.

According to Article 63, Jakarta shall maintain its status as the capital until the Presidential Decree on the relocation of the capital is issued.

Article 66 states that in order to bolster the relocation of the capital, state administration and/or state affairs, including the seat of state institutions and other organizations, will continue to be allowed to operate in Jakarta in accordance with the stages of the Presidential Regulation on the IKN master plan.

President Jokowi ratified the DKJ Law in Jakarta on April 25, 2024, which was promulgated by State Secretary Minister Pratikno in Jakarta on the same day.
