Local Bengkulu Police Place Ban on Electric Bikes as Residents Complaint

29 April 2024 12:05 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Mukomuko Resort Police, Bengkulu Province, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yana Supriatna banned electric bikes from operating on the roads for traffic violations and possible accidents.

"Electric bikes are not allowed on the roads because they violate traffic regulations," said Yana Supriatna in a statement in Mukomuko, Bengkulu, on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

According to Yana, the electric bike ban is a follow-up to complaints from motor vehicle users who felt disturbed by the presence of electric bikes on the roads of Mukomuko.

Furthermore, he said, the local resort police would advise local residents not to use electric bikes on the roads. The advice will be disseminated through social media, printed, electronic, and online mass media. The police will also deliver notices to the sub-district and village heads to convey the message to their residents.

Additionally, he said that Mukomuko Police Traffic Unit personnel and Sector Police personnel would also disseminate the rules governing the electric bike ban, stipulated under the Minister of Transportation Regulation. The regulation provided that electric bike users must be at least 12 years old and wear a helmet. The maximum speed of electric bikes is 25 kilometers per hour.

The local resort police personnel will increase patrols and raids, he said, and take legal action against electric bike users in this area. The police will also cooperate with the Mukomuko Regency Transportation Office in carrying out the raids.
