TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH) transported 66,000 tons of waste from five administrative city regions and the Seribu Islands. Quoted from Antara, DLH Jakarta transported waste seven days before Eid until the second day of Eid or Thursday, April 11, 2024.
"We managed to transport 66,615.84 tons of waste," said Jakarta DLH Head Asep Kuswanto when confirmed in Jakarta.
1. Waste during Eid al-Fitr
Data from DLH Jakarta shows that the amount of waste on the first and second day of Eid 2024 has decreased compared to the period before the religious holiday. On the first day of Eid, the environmental agency transported 2,610.14 tons of waste while 2,987.82 tons were transported on the second day.
Asep said that waste transfer from residences to temporary disposal sites (TPS) was temporarily suspended. "It will return to normal on D+7 of Eid when the travelers have returned to Jakarta and the waste collectors return to pick up garbage from each house and send it to the TPS," said Asep.
2. Waste in East Jakarta
The East Jakarta Environmental Agency reportedly collected 780.4 tons of waste from 10 sub-districts during the Eid 2024 holiday. According to Eko Gumelar, Head of the East Jakarta Environmental Agency, the most waste collected the night before Eid al-Fitr came from the Cakung sub-district with 111 tonnes, followed by Pulogadung Sub-district with 92 tons and Duren Sawit Sub-district with 87 tons.
3. Most Waste Collected After Eid
During the two days after Eid, the most waste collected was in the Matraman sub-district with 85 tons. It is followed by the Pulogadung sub-district with 60 tons and the Cakung sub-district with 33 tons. The waste was immediately taken to the Bantar Gerbang landfill. On the other hand, waste production from South Jakarta during the Eid 2024 holiday has decreased by 500 tonnes per day.
"The sub-district with the highest waste production during the Eid holiday is Kebayoran Lama sub-district," said South Jakarta Environment Agency Head Mohamad Amin in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara.
4. Waste Production during the Eid Holiday
Amin revealed that waste production in 10 sub-districts in South Jakarta each day is around 1,500 tons. However, during the Eid al-Fitr2024 holiday from April 6 to 15, 2024, there is a decrease in waste production to 1,000 tons per day in the region. He added that the drop in waste production was due to the Eid homecoming phenomenon where many residents went to their hometowns.
