TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of Indonesian citizens performed the Eid al-Fitr prayer 1445 H at the football field of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

According to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok received in Jakarta, the Eid al-Fitr prayer coincided with the Thai New Year celebration, Songkran, which is commonly celebrated with water festivities.

The event began with the Eid al-Fitr prayer followed by a sermon delivered by the Khatib, Novi Maulana.

After the prayer, the event continued with a gathering of Indonesian citizens with the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Thailand, Rachmat Budiman, and Mrs. Tanty Rachmat Budiman at the Indonesian Embassy Residence in Bangkok.

The gathering was attended not only by Indonesian Muslim communities but also by non-Muslim Indonesian citizens and friends of Indonesia in Thailand.

During the gathering, traditional Eid al-Fitr dishes such as rendang, spicy fish, fried chicken, lontong, and meatball soup were served. Additionally, desserts such as ice cream were also provided.

The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok stated that the gathering served as a perfect moment to strengthen the sense of brotherhood and unity among Indonesian citizens in Thailand.

The embassy also mentioned that the Ramadan committee of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Mesjir As-Syafir, had distributed zakat fitrah to elderly and poor Indonesian descendants in several provinces in Thailand.

Furthermore, the embassy had also distributed the funds to several mosques in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the embassy also announced that the distribution of funds for zakat mal and infaq sedekah was directed to orphanages in a province in Thailand and to orphans in Indonesia.

These funds would also be channeled through the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation in Indonesia to support the development of Islamic preaching, education, healthcare programs, and clean water needs in eastern Indonesia.
