TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - This year's Eid al-Fitr will be the last for Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as President of Indonesia. His duties and term as head of state and government will end on October 20, 2024.

In 2023, Jokowi celebrated Eid with his family at his home in Surakarta. This year, he will celebrate Eid in Jakarta, attending prayers at the Istiqlal Mosque and then holding an open house at the State Palace.

On April 3, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno confirmed that President Jokowi had received an invitation to pray at the Istiqlal Mosque. Jokowi will be accompanied by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and a number of ministers.

After that, state officials from the Progressive Indonesia Cabinet will have a meet and greet with the president at the State Palace. Yusuf Permana, head of the Presidential Secretariat's Protocol Bureau, said the plan for now is to hold the open house on Wednesday, April 10. But this may change after the Isbat meeting of the Ministry of Religious Affairs to determine the first day of Syawal. The Isbat is scheduled for today.

Yusuf said the palace would be open to the public and state officials from 09:00. There are no invitations, so they can just come to the palace to meet the president and say their Eid greetings.

"But of course, visitors must be orderly and follow the rules that apply in the palace," Yusuf said at the Presidential Palace Complex on April 8. "However, we are flexible and not too rigid about the rules, considering that this is Eid al-Fitr, a day of togetherness."

On the same occasion, the head of the presidential secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, said that residents must dress politely, with shoes, no jeans. He added that the palace had not yet decided how long the open house would last.

President Jokowi has confirmed that he will celebrate Eid at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. This time, there are no special plans to meet with specific national or political figures. "There is no plan, just a normal meet and greet," Jokowi said after visiting Pasar Senen train station in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 8.

Last year, on the first day of Eid, Jokowi received a visit from Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto – the now president-elect. Prabowo ran for presidency in 2024 with Jokowi’s son Gibran Rakabuming Raka as his running mate.
