TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - To celebrate the anniversary of the Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) on March 28, 2024, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta partnered with IPDN to provide English language training through the "English Language Specialists" program. The language training was recently completed after four weeks of courses held in Jatinangor, Sumedang for IPDN students and faculty.

The language training was conducted by English teachers Betty Lou Leaver and Ilyse Leland who came from California and Illinois to Indonesia to help IPDN develop a curriculum for translation studies, academic writing for research publications, public speaking, and preparation for international English proficiency tests such as IELTS and TOEFL.

“The experience of working with these future leaders has been truly inspiring,” Leaver and Leland said in a joint statement.

Hyronimous Rowa, Vice Chancellor for Academic and Innovation Affairs at IPDN, appreciated the support of the United States Embassy and hopes to continue this collaboration.

Ruth Goode, director of the Regional English Language Office (RELO), assured that the U.S. Embassy supports special programs like this so that important groups like IPDN students can acquire the language skills needed to participate more effectively in Southeast Asia as well as internationally, and able to benefit from scholarships to study abroad.

"This year marks the 75th anniversary of relations between the United States and Indonesia, and we are proud to build on a decades-long history of bilateral partnership to provide high-quality English-language programs and support to our partners in Indonesia," Goode said.
