TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) is preparing for the election dispute hearing which will soon proceed to the Constitutional Court (MK).
Head of the KPU's Legal and Supervision Division, Mochammad Afifuddin, said his side would conduct three days of consolidation in Jakarta before the hearing begins.
“From Sunday to Tuesday or March 24-26, in Jakarta, the KPU holds a consolidation of the KPU's Legal Division throughout Indonesia to deal with disputes at the Constitutional Court,” Afifuddin said via a text message on Sunday, March 24.
According to him, the central and regional KPU offices will help each other to face challenges in the presidential election, legislative elections, and regional representative council (DPD) elections.
The Constitutional Court opened the registration of PHPU cases within three days after the KPU declared the results of the 2024 election. However, Chief Judge Suhartoyo said the court would still accept applications after the deadline. “But it will be decided by the judges. There are also formal requirements to be considered,” he said at the MK building in Central Jakarta, on Sunday, March 24.
On March 20, the KPU announced presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming as the winners of the 2024 election. A day later, candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar lodged a legal case to challenge the election results. Candidate pair number 3 Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md also filed a similar case with the Constitutional Court on Saturday, March 23.
