TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, talked about the possibility of his party joining President-elect Prabowo Subianto's coalition government after meeting with the latter today, March 22.
Earlier today, he welcomed the arrival of Prabowo at the NasDem Tower in Central Jakarta. He was seen pleased to greet the Defense Minister.
“We will see the developments ahead,” Surya said in a press conference at the NasDem Tower in Central Jakarta, on Friday, March 22. “It’s a fifty-fifty possibility,” he remarked.
Surya claimed that Prabowo's invitation to his coalition was simply a tribute to NasDem. “That's Pak Prabowo's appreciation [for NasDem],” he said.
In the same press conference, Prabowo said that he has always invited Surya to join his political coalition. “I always offer, always extend my invitation,” he said.
Prabowo also emphasized that after the 2024 elections, Indonesia needs leaders to unite to build the nation. He believed that cooperation among political elites is a crucial factor and is the will of the people.
In the 2024 election, Surya is Prabowo's political opponent as the NasDem Party is part of the Coalition for Change along with the PKB (National Awakening Party) and PKS (Prosperous Justice Party), supporting Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar.
Immediately after the KPU announced the election results on March 20, Surya congratulated Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming for winning with 96,214,691 votes in 36 provinces.
Meanwhile, the Anies-Muhaimin campaign team lodged a legal case to challenge the election results at the Constitutional Court over allegations of fraudulent practices on March 21, and the Ganjar-Mahfud campaign team confirmed that they would file a similar case no later than Saturday, March 23.
