Japanese PM Kishida Congratulates President-elect Prabowo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has congratulated Prabowo Subianto for his triumph in the 2024 presidential election. The congratulatory letter was sent on March 20.
“Prime Minister Kishida extended his congratulations to President-elect Prabowo for the 2024-2029 period,” said the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta in a written statement on Thursday, March 21.
In his letter, PM Kishida underscored the elevation of bilateral relations between the two nations to a Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership last year, which coincided with the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
“He also expressed his desire to encourage various bilateral cooperation and cooperate in dealing with regional and international situations,” said the Japanese Embassy.
Kishida sent the letter after the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) declared Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the victors of the presidential election.
The KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari announced the results of the February 14 election at the KPU building in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, March 20. The declaration was contained in the KPU Decree No. 360 of 2024.
Several world leaders have also conveyed their felicitations to Prabowo Subianto, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
