Ridwan Kamil Clarifies Jokowi's Order for VP Palace Design in IKN

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ridwan Kamil, a planning and development curator for the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), denied reports that the design of the Vice President's Palace at the new capital in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan will be changed.

He made the statement in response to Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono's statement that the President had asked for a revision of the palace’s original design.

“The President wants the winning design to be returned to its original state,” Kamil said at the Kempinski Hotel Jakarta on Thursday, March 14.

The former governor of West Java explained that the designer himself actually made the changes in question, and the President preferred the original design. However, he said it was merely a slight revision of the spatial design, which he deemed was common in any development progress at IKN.

Jokowi had also approved the current design of the Vice President's Palace. Therefore, Kamil is optimistic that the construction will be completed in 2025 as expected.

The construction of the Vice President's Palace at IKN was scheduled to kick start in July 2024.

To date, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that he has no plans to work from IKN as the transfer plan has not been discussed yet. Meanwhile, President Jokowi planned to start working at IKN in July 2024 once supporting infrastructure such as water sources and toll roads is available.
