TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - King Abdullah II of Jordan congratulated presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto for his supposed winning of the 2024 presidential election.
This was revealed through a video uploaded on Prabowo Subianto's official Instagram account @prabowo when he received a call from King Abdullah.
"Happy for you, my brother, congratulations," King Abdullah said in the phone call, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
He said that if the time was right, he would come and meet with Prabowo and congratulate him in person. "I am so happy for you and I know that your country needs you. I [have known] you for a long time, I couldn’t be prouder, my friend," said King Abdullah.
Prabowo, who was wearing a black suit, replied to King Abdullah's words by thanking him. King Abdullah also said he was ready to welcome Prabowo if the Gerindra Party Chairman wanted to visit him in person in Jordan.
"I have fond memories in Amman," Prabowo said.
Prabowo wrote in the caption that he was very honored to receive congratulations on the election results from King Abdullah II of Jordan.
"We are committed to continuing to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries. May Allah always bestow His blessings and mercy on King Abdullah II and his family and our brothers and sisters in Jordan," Prabowo wrote.
King Abdullah II and Prabowo are old friends since they were members of the army in their respective countries. Both are alumni of Fort Banning, an American military educational institution that produces special forces.
King Abdullah II is known to have helped Prabowo Subianto when the former Army Strategic Reserve Commander was caught in the 1998 kidnapping case. After his dismissal from the army, Prabowo spent most of his life in Jordan and studied business in the country.
