House Plenary Meeting Commence Without Speaker Puan Maharani, Attended by 164 Members

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives or DPR held its first plenary meeting after the 2024 general elections on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. It was reported that only 164 members attended the meeting inauguration directly at the Nusantara II Building. The meeting started at 10:00 a.m. local time.
“According to the note of the Secretary-General of DPR, the attendance list during the start of the meeting noted 164 members present and 126 members took an absence, so a total of 290 members [signed the attendance list] out of 575 members of DPR,” said the Vice Speaker of DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad while inaugurating the plenary meeting.
Dasco led the meeting on behalf of the Speaker of DPR Puan Maharani who is currently on a working visit to Paris to attend the Women's Speaker Summit. Vice Speaker and the head of the PKB Party Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin was also absent from the meeting.
The plenary meeting series will continue until April 4, 2024. This series of meetings is conducted after a recess period from Wednesday, Feb. 7 to Monday, March 4.
The meeting today kickstarted the plenary meeting series, which was opened with a speech from the House Speaker, represented by Dasco.
