Indonesian National Police Deploy 3,929 Officers to Secure Protest in DPR Building Today

5 March 2024 13:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta Metro Police will deploy 3,929 joint personnel to provide security during the protest rally in front of the DPR building today, March 5. The officers are composed of members of the Jakarta Metro Police, the Resort Police, the TNI, the Jakarta Regional Government, and related agencies.

Members of the National Coalition to Save Democracy plan to stage a protest in front of the DPR building today. Security personnel have been deployed to prevent the masses from entering the DPR or MPR compound.

"Personnel will be deployed later at a number of points around the DPR or MPR RI," said Central Jakarta Police Chief Sr. Comr. Susatyo Purnomo Condro said in an official statement on Tuesday, March 5.

Police are also preparing road closures and traffic engineering in anticipation of the growing crowds.

"We have closed the vehicles from the toll lane in front of the DPR or MPR and directed them straight to Slipi," Susatyo said.

Susatyo appealed to the field coordinators and speakers of the demonstration to deliver their speeches calmly, not to provoke the masses, not to be anarchic, and not to damage public facilities. "This way, this demonstration can be safe, orderly and conducted," he said.
