Ed Sheeran's 2-Hour Concert in Jakarta Deemed a Success, Here's How it Went

3 March 2024 11:33 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaEd Sheeran successfully held the + - = ÷ x or the Mathematics Tour 2024 concert at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in Indonesia on Saturday evening, March 2, 2024. For two full hours, Ed Sheeran treated the ears of thousands of fans with his comforting flagship songs.

Different from the one in 2019, this time Ed Sheeran presented a concert with the sensation of a 360 degree stage that rotates and is a global standard for the Mathematics Tour 2024. This concept allowed spectators sitting from all sides of the stadium to clearly see the British singer's stage action.

"Thank you for coming. I'm back again after 5 years. I'm very happy to be back in Jakarta," said Ed Sheeran.

Ed Sheeran Wore a Shirt That Says 'Jakarta'

Ed Sheeran appeared while playing guitar and accompanied by his band which was placed separately from the main stage. He started going up on stage at 20:20 WIB (Western Indonesian Time) by singing the songs Tides and Blow.

His appearance was quite simple, he only wore a black t-shirt with the words "Jakarta" on the front and back. During those 2 hours, Ed Sheeran only got off the stage once to change clothes, precisely before the last 3 songs. However, that was only for a short time, so the audience was not left waiting long.

From the first song to the last, Ed Sheeran's voice sounded very stable and satisfying, especially as he performed his songs in a different style from the original recording. Plus the light effects and fireworks around the stage further perfected Ed Sheeran's appearance.

Ed Sheeran Invited the Audience to Sing Together and Turn on Flashlights

Eventhough the stage was quite spacious and looked sophisticated, Ed Sheeran was able to master it alone with ease. He kept walking to all sides and stood on the rotating part of the stage, making sure everyone in the audience could see him.

The interaction between Ed Sheeran and the audience was also very good. Ed Sheeran often invited the audience to stand up, sing, clap and jump together, as in the songs Castle on the Hill, Give Me Love, Beautiful People, I Don't Care, and Galway Girl.

Then the atmosphere turned more romantic when the audience were asked to turned on their cellphone flashlights during the songs The A Team, Thinking Out Loud, Love Yourself, Happier, Photograph and Perfect were performed. In total, Ed Sheeran performed almost 30 songs, including Shivers, Lego House, Eyes Closed, Overpass Graffiti, Shape of You, and Bad Habits.
