TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Presidential Palace asserted that a foreign media report on diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Israel was untrue.
"The information is completely incorrect," said Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana, emphasized in a short message received by Antara in Jakarta on Thursday, Feb. 29.
The statement was related to the news reported by foreign media jewishinsider.com on the link: https://jewishinsider.com/2024/02/israel-indonesia-normalization-state-department/.
On the news, the media reported that Indonesia plans to establish official diplomatic relations with Israel.
Ari emphasized that it was not true that Indonesian President Joko Widodo sent a special envoy to talk with Israel.
He explained that the President would send a foreign minister, or representatives in coordination with the minister, regarding foreign affairs. "The president's official position is represented by the statement and attitude of the foreign minister," Ari Dwipayana said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lalu Iqbal confirmed the statement of the Palace.
“The foreign minister will work under the President's direction. The minister also always reports after every activity she attended or global important events that need the President's attention," said Lalu in a short message to Tempo.
