TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah stated that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Kuwait are an important momentum for discussing global issues in regional and multilateral forums, including in the field of employment.

In a statement received on Saturday, Minister Fauziyah drew attention to several issues that could be raised by Indonesia along with Kuwait, including the Palestinian independence, peace and security, and socio-economic development.

"To address global issues, two bilateral mechanisms have been established in both countries, namely Joint Ministerial Commission and Joint Trade Commission at the senior official level," Fauziyah stated on the occasion of the 63rd National Day and 33rd Kuwait State Liberation Day on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the field of employment, Indonesia and Kuwait have realized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) that was signed in 1996.

Fauziyah affirmed that Kuwait is currently home to more than 6,100 Indonesian citizens out of which around 2,850 are Indonesian migrant workers who work in the oil, health, and hotel sectors.

"I hope that in future, more professional and skilled Indonesian migrant workers will work in Kuwait," the minister stated.

Ida Fauziyah remarked that the development of cooperation between Indonesia and Kuwait, especially in employment, must continue to be carried out well, so that the placement of Indonesian workers in Kuwait can run smoothly.
