TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan expressed his appreciation for the movement of change that he has been spearheading for the past 1.5 years until the voting day on February 14, 2024. He hailed that with burning enthusiasm, the movement has overcome all challenges and fought against great forces.
“Facing an opponent with enormous strength is truly an extraordinary achievement that we have accomplished thus far,” Anies said in a two-minute video on Thursday, February 15.
Although the vote-counting process is still ongoing, the former Jakarta governor pointed out several flaws in the conduct of the 2024 general election, stressing the need for oversight at every stage of the process.
“Our fight is not over. Despite all the goodness of the election and the hard work of all parties involved, there are still numerous shortcomings,” he said, urging his supporters to remain vigilant and report any instances of fraud or irregularities that may arise during the election process. Anies viewed this as an opportunity to improve elections and strengthen democracy.
“Report any instances of frauds, oddities, and abnormalities to the National Legal Team. The contact can be found on the website https://aminajadulu.com/lapor,” Anies underlined.
As of 7.30 am, the General Elections Commission (KPU) had processed 49.48 percent of the voting data from the total number of polling stations operated in the February 14 election. The results showed that Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar had secured 25.27 percent of the votes nationwide, trailing behind Prabowo Subianto - Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who secured 56.87 percent, while Ganjar Pranowo - Mahfud Md garnered 17.86 percent of the votes.
Anies also asked his supporters to respect the election process and appreciate the ongoing work of democracy. “Let us maintain optimism that the movement of change will persist and believe that it will achieve its long-term goals. I once said that optimism must be kept alive,” he said with optimism.
Anies Baswedan further encouraged the public to remain steadfast in their determination to pursue Indonesia's progress, even if the road ahead may seem arduous. “I will repeat what I said yesterday that I will stand by and continue to assist the movement of change.”
