TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka delivered his victory speech alongside Prabowo Subianto last evening at Istora Senayan during a gathering to watch the quick count race of the presidential election. What were the points he conveyed?
1. Gibran expressed his gratefulness and apologies
Gibran started his speech by apologizing for not being able to campaign in every single region in Indonesia. The Solo Mayor also thanked his supporters, including Indonesian youths.
His side did not expect the quick count results to exceed 50 percent. "We didn't expect the numbers to be this high, I'm sure the young generation contributed a lot to this result,” he said.
2. Gibran brought up his nickname, Samsul
During the occasion, Gibran said that in the previous three months, he was a nobody. Many doubted his capabilities, though he was afraid to participate in debates, and were even nicknamed Samsul. The nickname emerged after he mistakenly said that sulfuric acid (Asam Sulfat), shortened as Samsul, was good for pregnant people.
3. Gibran thanked Prabowo for giving young people opportunities
Gibran also expressed his thanks to Prabowo, who he said had provided opportunities for young people. The eldest son of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi also praised Prabowo for providing guidance to young people involved in politics like himself.
"This is extraordinary, Mr. Prabowo is a senior role model who always guides us, young people," said Gibran.
4. Gibran will meet Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud
On the other hand, Gibran also expressed his desire to meet Prabowo-Gibran’s rivals, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.
"Personally, I want to meet running pair number 1 and running pair number 3 soon," said Gibran. According to Gibran, his wish was a form of brotherhood.
5. Gibran reminded supporters about comradery
Gibran reminded his supporters not to speak ill of the other running candidates and their supporters. The vice presidential candidate emphasized that all of the running candidates in the presidential election are parts of a brotherhood.
"Don't be arrogant, there's no need to bully or badmouth other candidates, we are all comrades," Gibran concluded.
