TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government expressed willingness to lead the discussion of Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence with ASEAN and Asia-Pacific countries.
"ASEAN and Asia-Pacific country members exchange perspectives and experience on AI ecosystem implementation in their respective countries. We were discussing the readiness to draft an AI Ethical Guidelines," Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria said in a written statement on Wednesday said in a written statement on Wednesday.
Nezar also relayed the commitment after a meeting with ASEAN and Asia-Pacific delegates in Slovenia on Tuesday. He said Indonesia is ready to bridge the AI Ethical RAM to kickstart the discussion in 2024.
"A number of ASEAN countries are not prepared for RAM, but several countries expressed their interest to expedite the process," he said.
The Indonesian government is responsive to AI development, so its willingness to manage the RAM discussion is inevitable. "Thus, a strong collaborative effort to view, utilize, and collaborate on AI is necessary, including to improve the human resources in each country," he said.
To ensure a proper understanding of artificial intelligence as the most advanced technology, Nezar Patria believed in active participation by all relevant parties in drafting AI regulations. The discussion is critical since AI will become the face of an inclusive future.
"So no countries are too dominant or too strong to police other countries on AI development, since AI will affect the human race as a whole which makes uniformed outlook and implementation of no one left behind principle is necessary," he concluded.
