TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria represented Indonesia in a meeting with the Lithuanian Vice Minister of Cultural Affairs Vygintas Gasparaviius to discuss collaboration potential in artificial intelligence (AI).
"We conduct a bilateral meeting with Lithuania upon their request. They expressed interest in cooperating with Indonesia because they see Indonesia in a strategic position especially within Southeast Asia as a country with a 280-million population," Nezar said in a press release received on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Indonesia attended the series of UNESCO's global forum on AI Ethics in Slovenia, which opened collaborative opportunities between Indonesia with the EU. Indonesia, Nezar said, has a strategic value to engage in international collaboration to develop AI.
"For Lithuania, this is the one chance for them for an equal cooperation with Indonesia in terms of technological development of AI," he said. Lithuania expressed interest in developing artificial intelligence in the health and defense sectors.
Nezar Patria appreciated Lithuania's interest in sharing its knowledge in AI development with ASEAN. As a small populated country of around two million people, Lithuania faced the varied challenges of digitalization implementation.
"So we try to take the best practices as well as learn from their perceived failures," he concluded.
