King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer After Enlarged Prostate Treatment

6 February 2024 08:11 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Buckingham Palace officially announced that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer after recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.

"During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," the palace posted on its Instagram, @theroyalfamily on Tuesday.

Buckingham Palace mentioned that doctors advised the King to postpone his public-facing duties during treatments, but will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," the statement wrote.

King Charles III has chosen to share his diagnosis, the palace said. He hopes to prevent speculation and that it may assist public understanding of all those around the world who are affected by cancer.

Previously, King Charles III sought treatment in the hospital for an enlarged prostate. "In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. His Majesty's condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure. The King's public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation," Buckingham Palace announced.

One in three men aged 50 years and up will get some symptoms of prostate enlargement, located just below the bladder.
