TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jambi Office of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported on Wednesday that the flood in Jambi, which caused by recent intense downpours, damaged 2,570 hectares of agricultural land, and led to the deaths of two residents.

The flash floods also triggered landslides in the districts of Kerinci, Bungo, Tebo, Batanghari, and Merangin, as well as Sungai Penuh City, Head of the agency's Emergency Affairs, Lailatuh Qodri, stated.

The landslides and floods, which inundated the areas of 82 sub-districts in Jambi Province since early January, affected 78,964 households and 229 educational facilities, Qodri remarked.

In addition, the floods submerged tens of houses of worship and public health centers in various disaster zones.

"Some 509 villages in Jambi have suffered from the impact of this catastrophe," Qodri remarked, adding that the provincial government has distributed relief aids to affected residents.

ANTARA reported earlier that this year's rainy season has caused flooding in several areas in Indonesia.

Central Kalimantan experienced the impact of intense rainfall recorded in several parts of the province since early this week.

According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), intense rainfall has caused flooding in Palangkaraya City and the districts of Murung Raya, Barito Selatan, Kotawaringin Barat, and Kapuas.

According to head of BNPB's Data Center, Information, and Disaster Communication Unit, Abdul Muhari, Murung Raya was the first district in Central Kalimantan to be affected by flash floods.

Since January 15, 2024, floods have been reported in 38 villages in six sub-districts. As many as 31,178 residents were affected by flooding, while 9,527 homes and 28 schools were left submerged by floodwaters, he remarked.

Floods in Murung Raya District inundated 10 health facilities, 20 houses of worship, and 13 public facilities, he remarked, adding that 11 displaced families have moved to higher ground.

In Southeast Sulawesi, floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, inundated 1,011 homes in the sub-districts of Kolaka, Latambaga, Samaturu, Wolo, and Iwoimendaa in Kolaka District.
