TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The year 2023 has proven to be challenging for aviation service amid the spike in tourists around the world. Airports and the aviation industry are hit with strikes, system errors, and weather-related delays throughout the year.

A study conducted by Visa Guide.World released the list of the world's most stressful airports in December 2023. This list is a comprehensive ranking system to evaluate the stress level experienced by passengers while navigating the 30 biggest airports globally.

The factors assessed are the number of passengers, the size of the airport, the volume of people at the airport, the delay percentage, and the distance to the heart of the city.

In detail, below is the list of the top ten most stressful airports in the world:

1. London Gatwick Airport

Famous for its bustling atmosphere and high passenger volumes, Gatwick Airport in London is also a major travel hub. Its ranking has been influenced by a high passenger density, substantial delays, and considerable distance from the city center, despite having a passenger volume lower than the average.

2. Istanbul Airport

As one of the busiest airports globally, Istanbul Airport grapples with a dense crowd, complex infrastructure, and occasional delays. Most of the travelers claimed that they often face difficulties navigating the airport due to its enormous size.

3. Munich Airport

Munich Airport, while efficient, occasionally faces congestion issues, and its significant size can add to the complexity of navigation, making it a demanding experience for travelers.

4. Denver International Airport

With occasional weather-related disruptions, Denver International Airport also poses a challenge with its extensive terminals and runways. As per recent reports, Denver International Airport's existing infrastructure is also not apt to handle the number of passengers flying through it.

5. Heathrow Airport

As one of the world's busiest airports, Heathrow's immense passenger traffic and complex layout contribute to its reputation as a stressful hub for air travel.

6. Los Angeles International Airport

This airport serves as a major gateway to the United States and is known for its large crowds, complex terminals, and potential delays, making it a notable airport with stress-inducing factors.

7.Fiumicino International Airport

Fiumicino Airport in Rome can be a bustling and occasionally chaotic airport, grappling with passenger volumes and the intricacies of managing international flights.

8. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport

This airport, while expansive and well-equipped, can be challenging for travelers due to its size, occasional delays, and the complexities associated with connecting flights.

9. John F. Kennedy International Airport

As a major global travel hub, JFK Airport in New York faces high passenger traffic, congestion, and occasional delays, which contribute to its reputation as a stressful travel destination.

10. O’Hare International Airport

Located in Chicago, this airport is known for its sheer size and significant air traffic. This airport can present challenges for passengers with its complex layout and potential delays.
