TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto sent off humanitarian aid to the people of the besieged Gaza, Palestine, today, January 18. The aid was dispatched at the Military Naval Command Pier in North Jakarta using the naval ship or KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992.
Prabowo arrived at the pier at 07:27 local time and was accompanied by several celebrities, including Raffi Ahmad, Nagita Slavina, Atta Halilintar, Aurel Hermansyah, Rizky Billar, and Lesti Kejora.
The aid comprises food, blankets, clothing, baby equipment, women's clothing, milk, tents, cleaning equipment, mineral water, and religious equipment that the Indonesian Navy had collected since early November 2023.
Prabowo acknowledged the dangers of delivering the humanitarian aid because it would have to pass through the war zone between Yemen's Houthis and the United States and the United Kingdom, namely the Gulf of Aden. However, he stated that Indonesia has good relations with the countries involved.
He also said this humanitarian assistance proved Indonesians’ continued support for Palestine in its pursuit of independence. “We continue to mobilize what we can to support the Palestinian people.”
The ship carrying the humanitarian aid will travel from Jakarta to Belawan, then to Al Arish, Jeddah, Batam, and back to Jakarta, a journey that will take around 52 days.
Indonesia had already dispatched two batches of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Palestine, which were released separately by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi on November 5 and 20, 2023, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta.
