TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Idham Holik, stated that the regional head election, or Pilkada, is scheduled for November 2024, as regulated in Article 201 (8) of Law No. 10 of 2016.
“The policy remains in effect,” Idham told journalists at the KPU building, on Thursday, January 11. He also responded to questions that the House of Representatives (DPR) is discussing the law on the simultaneous regional elections.
He emphasized that it is the authority of the DPR as the lawmaker that must be respected. “So we cannot intervene with this authority,” said Idham, who is also the head of the technical department for organizing the elections.
According to him, the KPU as the election organizer must have a contingency plan if there is a change in Article 201 (8). “We must be ready.”
Regarding the timetable for the general elections, Idham said it was stipulated in the KPU Regulation No. 3 of 2022. The agency also prepared two rounds of the presidential elections according to the law. “That’s the order of the law,” he added.
Earlier, the issue of accelerating the election of regional heads from November 27, 2024, to September 2024 was raised. This was aimed at structuring the time for the simultaneous inauguration of elected regional heads.
The KPU also affirmed that the presidential election and the legislative election will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
