TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) conducted several mitigation efforts to deal with potential disasters during the rainy season.

Head of Jakarta BPBD's Data and Information Processing Michael Sitanggang told ANTARA here on Tuesday that some of the anticipatory efforts included preparation routines, public service, and exercises to face the rainy season.

"The routine, which was attended by hundreds of joint personnel from the sub-district military, the local police, BPBD, the Fire and Rescue Office, Health Office, and Social Office, aimed to check the readiness of personnel and equipment to face the rainy season in Jakarta," Sitanggang remarked.

In addition, the joint personnel included the Jakarta Public Order Security Agency (Satpol PP), the Communication and Information Office, sub-district and village heads, disaster volunteers, and other related elements.

His side also checked the readiness of disaster-handling support elements at the village level that were prepared from September to October 2023.

In the routine, civil servants, disaster handling officers, and quick response teams checked the facilities and infrastructure distributed by BPBD to village offices, such as tents, foldable beds, PE or plastic emergency boats, oars, and buoys.

In addition, the joint personnel, involving the Public Infrastructure and Facilities Handling (PPSU) team, simulated setting up tents.

Another mitigation effort taken during the rainy season was the public service activity "Our Service for Jakarta" in November 2023.

The mass service, which involved Jakarta's residents, included cleaning water channels and rivers.

"In addition to being a momentum for mass service throughout Jakarta, Our Service for Jakarta is expected to revive the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) that is the Indonesian culture as well as foster a sense of love and belonging in every citizen for this city," he explained.
